TruFlat Laser Wood – Guaranteed Flat, Pre-Finished Engineered Wood
TruFlat is an engineered wood sheet built to solve the one thing that ruins most laser wood projects: warping. Every sheet has a 100% wood-fibre MDF core with a designer wood-look (or solid colour) face pressed onto both sides, so you get a smooth, pre-finished surface that's ready to cut and engrave straight out of the pack. No masking, no sanding, no guesswork.
Pixel Burn is the only authorised TruFlat reseller in Australia, carrying the full colour range so you can test a finish or restock your production line with confidence.
Why You'll Like Working With It
- Guaranteed flat — no bowing or warping on the laser bed
- Pre-finished on both sides, so there's no "wrong side" to worry about
- Cuts cleanly on CO2 and diode lasers
- Wipes clean after engraving — no masking required
- Paint fills wipe off the surface easily while staying in the engraved detail
- Sublimation-ready on Maple, Oak, Linen and White (Paint Primed is not sublimatable)

Is TruFlat Actually Plywood?
Not in the traditional sense. TruFlat uses an engineered wood-look face bonded to a defect-free MDF core, rather than stacked wood plies like a Baltic birch sheet. That's exactly why it stays flatter and cuts more predictably than natural plywood, which can vary sheet to sheet and warp over time. If you're after visible layered edges like traditional plywood, this material will look different — but if you want consistent, flat, laser-ready sheets every time, this is built for exactly that.

These are starting points only — always run a test cut on scrap before a full production run, since results vary by machine, lens condition, focus height and calibration.

Cleaning Char Marks
If you get char residue along your cut edges, wipe it back with a microfibre cloth and warm soapy water, or a multi-surface cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasives — they can dull the pre-finished surface.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is TruFlat actually plywood?
Not in the traditional sense — it's an engineered wood-fibre MDF core with a wood-look face pressed onto both sides, rather than stacked layers of real wood ply. That's what gives it the guaranteed-flat result standard plywood can't match.
What's the difference between White and Paint Primed?
White has a smooth, slightly glossy pre-finished surface built for sublimation and engraving. Paint Primed has a matte, unfinished, lightly textured surface designed to soak up paint — it's not sublimatable, but it saves you priming raw MDF yourself.
Can I sublimate on it?
Yes — Maple, Oak, Linen and White are all sublimation-ready straight out of the pack. Paint Primed is not suitable for sublimation.
Does it need masking before I cut or engrave?
No. It's pre-finished on both sides specifically so you can skip masking altogether — cut, engrave, wipe clean, done.
What can I make with it?
Signs, ornaments, coasters, keychains, table numbers, layered wall art, business cards, gift tags and sublimated photo gifts — it's a solid all-rounder for both cutting and engraving projects.
Is it beginner-friendly?
Yes. Because it's engineered for consistent, flat results sheet to sheet, it takes a lot of the trial-and-error out of laser wood work compared to natural plywood.
What size does it come in?
One size: 305 x 483mm (12 x 19in), roughly 3mm thick.
My engraving looks too light or too dark — what's going on?
Too light usually means your power is too low or speed too high — nudge power up 5–10% before touching speed. Too dark or burned usually means power's too high or you're running too many passes — ease off power slightly and increase speed while keeping detail sharp. Always test on scrap first, since results vary by machine and calibration.
Can I buy TruFlat anywhere else in Australia?
No. Pixel Burn is the only authorised TruFlat reseller in Australia. It is possible to order sheets directly from the US, but nobody else is authorised to sell TruFlat commercially within Australia.
